THE ISSUE OF CARBON EMISSIONS
The staggering rise in global temperature, changing climate, and environmental pollution as well as carbon emissions are the greatest threats to the humanity living on this planet and have become an intense debate in the last few decades. Climate change, a multifaceted dilemma connected with various societal issues has caused major disruptions in the global cryosphere. Water scarcity from losing glaciers and snowpack; global sea-level rise, ocean warming; and landslides caused by permafrost thaw are already having severe consequences. These changes are endangering lives and livelihoods, and some have already been lost due to the alarming rate of Greenhouse gases (GHGs) that humanity is pouring into the atmosphere in a struggle for rapid economic expansion
This website presents the information regarding POLONEZ BIS research project “Fiscal Decentralisation–Institutional Quality–Human Capital and Carbon Emissions Nexus: A Comparative Study of G7 and E7 Economies”. Dr. Taimoor Hassan is principal investigator of this project while Professor Piotr Krajewski is mentor of this project that is to be carried out at Faculty of Economic Sociology, University of Lodz, Poland.
POLONEZ BIS – Postdoctoral Fellowships in Poland is co-financed by the European Commission (EC) and the National Science Centre (NCN) under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND grant.
This research is part of the project No. 2022/45/P/HS4/03460 co-funded by the National Science Centre and the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement no. 945339.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The projects aims to investigate the role of fiscal decentralization, institutional quality and human capital on carbon emissions in a panel of developed and developing economies. The multiplicative terms of key explanatory variables will be introduced in the econometric models to capture more specific impact on carbon emissions. Moreover, this study will provide new dimension to compare and discuss the empirical findings for both developed and developing economies. Considering the two well-known concepts, ‘race to the bottom’ and ‘race to the top’, the empirical findings of the project will be explained.
While designing econometric model, Interesting Interactive terms will be generated to examine interesting outcomes. In brief, the project will produce quality research publications and will add into the global struggle of curbing environmental pollution by adding a new dimensions that will provide a clear understanding for policy makers and governments in both developed and developing nations.
