MDJO 2024 – spotkanie z Magdaleną Zawadzką

International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance established by UNESCO in 1999. Lecturers, students and doctoral students at the Institute of Polish Philology and Logopaedics of the University of Lodz want to celebrate this day by organising an event aimed at promoting Polish language correctness, fostering linguistic awareness and promoting Polish culture and reading.

On this occasion, student-doctoral science clubs operating at the Faculty of Philology in Lodz will prepare a series of workshops, stands with competitions and prizes as well as other attractions – this part will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

At 4:00 p.m., on the other hand, we are planning a meeting with a special guest – Magdalena Zawadzka, who is an icon of Polish cinema, a winner of the title of "Master of Polish Speech".

This year's edition of the event will be the 7th edition of the International Mother Language Day observance at the Faculty of Philology. Every year we host high school students. The event is very popular – each time workshops are organised for over 300 students and an additional approx. 400 people come to meet the special guest. This year, the workshop participants will be able to, among other things: learn the basics of an editor's work, learn about unknown but interesting facts from the lives of authors of school compulsory readings, recall phraseological connections, participate in voice emission workshops or find the answer to the question: What languages does contemporary Polish literature speak? The organisers hope that students will develop a taste for the Polish language.

All student science clubs operating at the Institute of Polish Philology and Logopaedics — 10 in total — as well as the Institute's employees participate in the organisation of the event.
