TRAINING COURSES AS PART OF GEP

THE IDEA OF TRAINING

The task of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), which was adopted in 2022, is to promote, monitor and evaluate equality and diversity within the academic community and to integrate these issues into the University of Lodz's core operating principles. One way of promoting equality and diversity is through a series of training courses collectively called Towards Excellence and Sustainability. From the challenges of discrimination and prejudice to inclusion and diversity.

It is a unique experience that brings together diverse forms of education, interesting teaching methods and topics of relevance to the academic community and staff at our university. We offer traditional workshops, online training, as well as 'short forms of development'. This makes it possible for each participant to choose the way of development that suits their style and goals best.

WHAT IS THE TRAINING ABOUT?

The proposed training topics cover various aspects of examining workplace relations, addressing difficult situations such as discrimination and prejudice, guide you through how to deal with challenges and teach about organisational change.

During the training sessions, we will pay great attention to building safe, satisfying relationships in the workplace, encouraging you to learn about the key psychological and communication mechanisms that affect the above-mentioned relationships. We will be showing you useful and effective tools and responses that will enable you to even better deal with various difficult and conflict situations you may experience at work.

Our training series is not only theory, but above all practice. Participants gain practical skills and get familiar with the strategies that they can apply in their professional and personal lives. It is a comprehensive approach that encourages reflection, change and personal development, contributing to a more open, inclusive and understanding society.

Each month, we will update you on current training events, encouraging you to participate and disseminate the information among academic community. You can take as many training courses as you wish.

Gender and diversity mainstreaming:
How to use intersectionality in everyday life and research

Who is it for and when?

Training for students and doctoral students

Benefits

  • learning the scientific understanding of the following terms: gender, diversity, intersectionality, mainstreaming, inclusive and difference-sensitive perspectives;
  • answering the question why including the context of diversity and multiculturalism in scientific research (e.g. diploma theses) is important and necessary;
  • working with the "wheel of privilege and power" tool – self-reflection on one's own social, economic and cultural situation;
  • reflecting on how to prepare a thesis or other type of academic work in a way that is sensitive to differences;
  • getting to know the gender/diversity impact assessment – how to use this tool step by step in student research or professional work;
  • exchanging experiences with people interested in the issues of exclusion and anti-discrimination activities.

Programme

  • gender/diversity mainstreaming in everyday life and in science;
  • the importance of the gender perspective in science – a short introduction to the issue;
  • intersectionality in research and at the University – what is an intersectional academy?;
  • "wheel of privilege and power" as a tool for talking about exclusion and overlapping processes of discrimination;
  • GIA (Gender Impact Assessment) – a tool to facilitate the inclusion of a gender and diversity perspective in scientific research and theses

The goal of the workshop is to show how to incorporate the perspective of gender, diversity and intersectionality into university activities and, above all, into research (regardless of the scientific discipline). It is of a practical nature, consisting in familiarising participants with specific tools (developed as part of international research projects) for assessing the impact of gender in research planning. It also introduces the issues of gender mainstreaming and intersectionality, as well as explains the requirements of the European Commission in this regard when applying for funding.
