The third volume is devoted to the history of Lodz in the years 1914-1945 – the times when the great industrial urban centre faced the drama of two world wars and a short period of reconstruction and development in the independent Republic of Poland.
It is a time travel from the 19th century "promised land" to the 20th century modernity. This period – marked with depopulation, change of nationality, material losses and devastation of industry – showed the fortitude and strength of the city and its inhabitants.
The discussion about the 3rd volume will be attended by:
- Dr Aneta Stawiszyńska who is a historian, a regionalist and a specialist in the history of World War I in Lodz;
- Dr Adam Sitarek who is a historian, Head of the Philip Friedman Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Lodz, an author of scientific and popular science works devoted to the history of Jews in Lodz and the region, especially during the Holocaust;
- Dr Marcin Szymański who is a historian, a museologist and a populariser of historical knowledge. He is passionate about economic relations in Poland, with particular emphasis on Lodz and the interwar period.
The discussion will be led by the editor of five volumes of the monograph, i.e. Prof. Jarosław Kita, who is a specialist in the history of Polish lands in the 19th century, historiography and biography. He popularises history on television and radio.
During the meeting, we will also talk about Professor Przemysław Waingertner, who the third volume of the monograph on Lodz is dedicated to. Professor Przemysław Waingertner was an Author, an Editor, a Scientist and a Teacher.
