„Jak to, na trzeźwo?” – Uniwersytet Łódzki x Ravekjavik

The University of Lodz started cooperation with the Ravekjavik Festival in last year's edition of the event. It is a cultural and socially engaged undertaking that goes beyond the usual formula of a music festival. The festival popularises art and raises important issues that cannot be passed over in silence. It also promotes the post-industrial heritage of the city, which is very close to us, a member university of the UNIC Alliance (European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition).

"What Do You Mean, Sober?" – a discussion panel 

As part of the daytime (free) part of the festival on Saturday, 15 June at 5:30 p.m. at Niciarniana 52 we are organising a discussion titled "What Do You Mean, Sober?  – everything you wanted to know about alcohol but didn't want to read the research results”. During the event, you will be able to hear moving stories of famous people who have taken up the fight against addiction. In the relaxed atmosphere of the festival, without a moralising tone, they will try to make young people familiar with the issues of addiction.

Thanks to the discussion you will get a chance to to learn more about:

• alcohol use, abuse and addiction
• when you should ask for help
• what life during and after the treatment for addiction is like
• who drinks and how they drink, and whether we drink more or less.

The panel participants:

• Dr Patryk Stecz who is a clinical psychologist, a research and teaching employee at the Institute of Psychology of the University of Lodz, Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychopathology. He has been providing psychological assistance for over 15 years. Dr Patryk Stecz is the author of approximately 40 scientific publications in the field of clinical and health psychology, positive psychology, suicide prevention and behavioural addictions (games and the Internet). He is a promoter and reviewer of works on issues such as alcohol addiction, growing up in an alcoholic family and co-addiction.
• Michał Kutek, a man with a legal background, who has been provoking audiences to think for years. He is a popular stand-up comedian who does not shy away from difficult topics. One of his performances is entitled "Won't you have a drink with me?"  
• Maja Ruszpel who is a journalist, an educator, a speaker and a lecturer. She hosts a series of radio programmes devoted to the latest scientific achievements on addictions. She is the author and host of a podcast about addictions called "About gambling and other addictions". She has been the content supervisor of a series of reportages about addiction, carried out in cooperation with Instytut Reportażu since 2017.
• Aleksandra Kubiak-Salska who is a certified addiction therapy specialist. Professionally, she is associated with the Addiction Prevention and Treatment Clinic in Lodz. He works individually with addicted and co-addicted adolescents and adults, as well as families of children and adolescents with problems using digital technologies. She is also active in the Trampolina Foundation in Lodz, where she runs support groups for parents of teenagers.

The panel will be led by Dr Bartosz Kałużny from the University of Lodz who is an Americanist, and a photographer at the University of Lodz. Bartosz Kałużny is responsible for communicating events in the field of art & science. He is the author of the DYWERS exhibition presented during this year's edition of Fotofestiwal, which aims to increase awareness of social diversity.
