The official opening of the first exhibition in Poland "Głusi o głuchych – opowieści komiksem i zinem" [Deaf about the Deaf – Stories Told by Comics and Zines] presenting comic works with a satirical element by deaf creators will be held on 13 November of the current year at 1:45 p.m. in "Galeria nad Schodami" gallery. The exhibition is an event crowning the implementation of the project "Alfabet głuchych twórców" [Alphabet of Deaf Creators] by the Ucieleśnienie Foundation, whose mgr Agnieszka Kołodziejczyk, a researcher at the Institute of Art History, University of Lodz, is the Vice-President. The project was co-financed by the Patriotism of Tomorrow programme of the Polish History Museum.
The project is to introduce the audience to the history of a little-mentioned part of the history of the Deaf community in Poland, namely the contribution to the history of Polish culture by selected famous deaf artists and social activists. The project also aims to introduce the profiles of deaf comic book creators by showing selected works at an exhibition, including educational zines made especially for this project by Agnieszka Kołodziejczak. The event will be accompanied by a catalogue of works with an introduction by dr hab. Aneta Pawłowska, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz and text by Agnieszka Kołodziejczak.
The event will be translated into Polish sign language and spoken Polish.
The exhibition will be on view until 30 November 2024.
