Dostępna – TAK czy NIE? Spotkanie wokół wystawy „TAXO. Sztuka dotyku”

Place of the event: ul. Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie 11, 90-505 Łódź
When: 28 May 2024 (Tuesday) 19:00 - 21:00

Are we as a society mentally ready to practice accessibility? How does this process shape itself in the sphere of culture and artistic activity? How open are institutions to the issue of accessibility – not only organisationally, legally or financially, but also in terms of awareness? The issue of access to art by people with disabilities raises many questions to which there are no clear answers. We will look at these issues during a meeting around the exhibition and the artistic and social project "Taxo. Sztuka dotyku" [Taxo. The Art of Touch], implemented by Tamara Sass and Joanna Apanowicz.

What does the term accessible art mean? For whom do we create accessible art and who really needs it? Audio description, typhlography – support or cushioning the reception of art? How to develop and implement the accessibility of works of art in cultural institutions and universities? We will try to answer questions and make recommendations for different ways of sharing works of visual art.

The discussion will be attended by the authors of the exhibition "Taxo. Sztuka dotyku":

  • Dr Tamara Sass
  • Dr Joanna Apanowicz

and

  • Dr Adam Drozdowski from the Institute of History of Art. at the faculty of Philosophy and History, University of Lodz.

The discussion will be moderated by Jolanta Sławińska-Ryszka from the Communications and PR of the University of Lodz, who is a cultural expert, a manager and a cultural animator.

The meeting around the exhibition and the artistic and social project "Sztuka dotyku" will be an opportunity to reflect on issues of inclusivity, a discussion between artists and a researcher regarding the accessibility of works of art for people with special needs. The event will be held at the University Wozownia 11 Gallary (Curie-Skłodowskiej 11) on Tuesday, 28 May of the current year at 7:00 p.m.
