The scholarship winners from the University of Lodz
Jarosław Brodecki is a student from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz, who received a scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the field of Biological Sciences. He is a young but very experienced naturalist, who has implemented interesting original scientific projects such as "Ocena zanieczyszczenia osadów rzecznych mikroplastikami i ich przenikania do wybranych bezkręgowców wodnych w rzekach aglomeracji łódzkiej" [Assessment of contamination of river sediments with microplastics and their penetration into selected aquatic invertebrates in rivers of the Lodz agglomeration" (first prize in the European Union Competition for Young Scientists). He deals with, among other things, the study of gammarids, water bodies monitoring and protection of amphibians in the region of Lodz (the already famous Lodz-wide Żabing) or the construction of a robot for taking samples and studying the chemistry of water bodies and river backwaters. He is among this year's finalists of the "25 before 25" competition by "Forbes" magazine and McKinsey & Company – the determination, ingenuity and good sense of timing of the young student-scientist from the University of Lodz have been recognised.
