„Światłoczuły” – wystawa obrazów Tadeusza Wolańskiego w Wozowni 1/5

Place of the event: Franciszkańska 1/5, 91-433 Łódź
When: 12 April 2025 (Saturday) 18:00 - 20:00

The exhibition of paintings by Tadeusz Witold Wolański entitled "Światłoczuły" [Photosensitive] is a tribute to the memory of the artist and his interest in physical phenomena in creative explorations, which were studied in the research work of dr hab. Eleonora Jedlińska, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz, from the Institute of History of Art, University of Lodz. We are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition, which will be held on 12 April at 6 p.m. at the University Wozownia 1/5 Gallery at the Biedermann’s Palace in Lodz.

The exhibition, which presents a series of “photographic paintings” by the artist from Lodz, is a result of joint work of Prof. Eleonora Jedlińska, an art historian from the Institute of History of Artr, University of Lodz, and Małgorzata Wolańska, the Professor’s daughter, a graduate of the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts Łódź, a painter and a graphic artist.

The presentation of selected paintings by Tadeusz Wolański refers to his original technique, thanks to which a series of "photographic paintings" was created in the 1980s. Wolański created these works using a laborious, time-consuming original technique, which he himself called "experimental".

Even during my studies, I was fascinated by the process of transforming a physical phenomenon into an artistic form. Form became the basis for formulating an artistic idea. I think that my activities in the areas that I considered important allowed me to shape my personal view of reality from universal positions and protected me from sinking into the nothingness of convention

– said Tadeusz Wolański.

The exhibition is an element of research work conducted by Prof. Eleonora Jedlińska on the painter's work, aimed at publishing a monograph devoted to the life and artistic as well as didactic activity of Tadeusz Wolański.

The series of the works presented as part of a series of exhibitions at the University Wozownia 1/5 Gallery is particularly important. It indicates how individual and separate the creative searches of the painter, Professor at the Lodz Academy of Fine Arts, were. They testify to his artistic and spiritual independence. From the perspective of an art historian, these paintings captivate with their calm, balanced beauty, while being aware of the method of their creation directs our thoughts towards respect and humility of us, the recipients, towards the toil, patience, the need for absolute concentration on creative work and the choice of the fate of an artist-craftsman, as Balthus, one of the most outstanding painters of the 20th century, used to call himself

– Prof. Eleonora Jedlińska writes in the curatorial text.

Wolański created the works presented at the exhibition using his own method of combining painting with photography, taking advantage of the photosensitive properties of the chemical materials used to develop it.

After the opening, the exhibition will be available until 9 May of the current year, on the following days and hours:

  • Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.,
  • Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

On other days, the exhibition can be viewed after making an appointment at the following e-mail address: wydarzenia@uni.lodz.pl
