The exhibition features unique photographs of Lodz from the years 1936–1940, showing the city on the eve and at the beginning of World War II. The author of the photographs is Waldemar Rode, a German photographer who was associated with Lodz for many years. His works document the architecture, everyday life and changes taking place in the city in one of the most dramatic periods of its history. The aim of the exhibition is to bring the history of the city from almost 100 years ago closer to the residents of the city and to remind them of its multicultural heritage, which played a key role in the development of Lodz.
Thanks to its "touring" nature, the exhibition has already reached several thousand people, presenting itself in various institutions and places, such as the MeMo Mediatheque, faculties of the University of Lodz and the Iness Hotel.
The exhibition is organised by the Łódź Foundation, which is constantly involved in the development of the city. Its projects reflect the commitment to creating a community based on cooperation and co-creation. A full description of the Foundation's activities can be found at https://thinklodz.eu
We encourage all history and architecture enthusiasts to visit the exhibition. This is a unique opportunity to look at our city through the eyes of one of its former residents and discover places that are still a part of it, although often in a changed form.
