Dr Marta Kucharska-Hauk who is a psychologist, is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Psychology of the University of Lodz and an interpersonal skills trainer. What inspired you to become a scientist?
It was curiosity, inquisitiveness and the need to understand. The research problems I deal with usually arise from situations and phenomena that stop me and cause a characteristic feeling in my body that convinces me that this is the right path. It appears there is quite a lot of intuition in the scientific work!
What impact does your work have on the surrounding reality?
I am fortunate that my research work is combined with practice as an interpersonal skills trainer which helps build rewarding relationships that promote development, coping with difficult situations with a sense of respect for diversity and mutual care for each other's needs.
How do you understand the term: profession of a scientist?
A scientist is a person who asks questions, looks for answers and when they find them, they explain the world through the prism of their understanding. This involves a lot of responsibility, the need for continuous development, critical thinking and the readiness to start over in the face of failure.
