Odnowienia doktoratów po 50 latach – piękna tradycja UŁ

The spirit of the Academy, a solemn atmosphere, extraordinary memories and emotions marked this year's edition of the ceremony of renewal of the University of Lodz doctorates after 50 years.

The custom of renewing doctoral diplomas was initiated by the Senate of the University of Lodz in 2000. To date, 119 outstanding representatives of the university who have made a special contribution to Polish science or culture have been honoured this way. This year, 14 more scientists have joined this group.

The ceremonies (this year held in three parts) were traditionally organised in the “Fireplace Room” at the university's Biedermann’s Palace. Each ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem and a speech by the Rector of the University of Lodz, Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, who in a few words introduced the beautiful tradition of the university, which is the renewal of doctorates.

In the case of each laureate, the ceremony (in the presence of the Dean of the home faculty) began with a laudation in their honour by a scholar, usually an alumnus or a colleague. After the diploma was read out (in Latin) and presented to the honourees, the laureates themselves took the floor. Here, in their wonderful speeches, often enriched with anecdotes, there was no shortage of touching memories from the near or distant past of the past 50 years, references to authorities, and summaries of excellent scientific careers. aukowej.

The official part of the ceremony ended with Gaude Mater Polonia, and then the honoured people had time to meet, often after many years, with their colleagues and alumni, to receive congratulations from them, and then to rejoice together over a glass of wine with family members invited to the ceremony.
