This is a record number of locations where you will be able to see films for free as part of Polówka. The screenings will always start after 9:00 p.m. (i.e. immediately after the sunset) in two, three, and sometimes even four places on the same day!
Polówka will run until the end of September this year. As every year, the festival programme is very diverse. Films from niche, arthouse cinema, the latest Polish cinema, but also Hollywood blockbusters will be presented. Each section will have its own theme.
DYWERS section – contribution of the University of Lodz
This year, as part of Polówka, the University of Lodz is co-organising the DYWERS section in the garden of the Biedermann’s Palace at Franciszkańska 1/5. The screenings presented here are thematically consistent with the university-wide interdisciplinary project of the same name, which aims to increase awareness of social diversity. As part of the film section DYWERS, viewers' attention will be drawn to the problems of tolerance, xenophobia and inequality in various aspects of life.
Get to know the story of the unexpected change of places in the Oscar-winning hit "Parasite" directed by Joon-ho Bong, travel back to the 1970s to experience the cultural and social changes taking place in the glow of Roman splendour in the film "L'immensità". Put yourself in the shoes of Robert De Niro in the story of a retiree who decides to start a marketing internship in an excellent comedy "The Intern" directed by Nancy Meyers. Feel the breeze of summer love in François Ozon's "Été 85" and great friendship in Xavier Dolan's "Matthias & Maxime"

DYWERS Exhibition is open during Polówka
On the days when the screenings will take place at the Biedermann’s Palace, you will also be able to see the exhibition of Bartosz Kałużny's photos as part of the DYWERS project. It is a perfect supplement and a creative component of the topics discussed in the films. The photos are exhibited in the Wozownia 1/5 Gallery at the Biedermann’s Palace from 7:30 p.m. until the end of the screening.
Projekt DYWERS
The goal of the DYWERS project implemented by Dr Bartosz Kałużny and supervised by Prof. Inga Kuźma (Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Lodz), is to increase awareness of social diversity. The project is in line with the Strategy of the University of Lodz 2021-2030, which reads, among others: "Diversity is the strength of the University of Lodz. Respect and understanding for different opinions and attitudes, as well as cultural openness and worldview tolerance constitute the foundations of our activities". Courage, cooperation and respect are some of the values that guide the University of Lodz. The project is a response to these assumptions and includes activities such as:
- DYWERS – the exhibition of Bartosz Kałużny's photos at the Wozownia 1/5 Gallery
- Human Library, which took place on 22 June at the Biedermann’s Palace
- Why Is Discrimination Passe? Workshop held on 24 June at the Wozownia 1/5 Gallery
- film screenigs as part of the DYWERS section under TME Polówka.
