The seminar at the Faculty of Law and Administration, with the participation of scientists from the University of Lodz Branch in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, began with a speech by the Faculty Coordinator of the Programme – Dr Joanna Mikołajczyk from the Department of Administrative Procedure and Judicial Review of Administration, who welcomed the programme participants and their mentors. Next, together with the University of Lodz Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Education, Dr hab. Robert Zakrzewski, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz and representatives of the faculty authorities, she congratulated the participants on completing the programme, gave them diplomas and thanked for their involvement in its implementation. The diplomas were also received by the mentors present at the ceremony: Dr Anna Głogowska-Balcerzak, Dr Agnieszka Jaworowicz-Rudolf, Dr Tomasz Lachowski, Dr Piotr Misztal and Dr Ireneusz Nowak (all from the Faculty of Law and Administration), and Dr Tomasz Kłos (the University of Lodz Branch in Tomaszów Mazowiecki).
This is the 7th edition of the programme, so I guess we can say that it has become a tradition that we invite high school students from Lodz and the region to cooperate and try conducting scientific research. As a chemist myself, I love to hear how passionately they talk about their research and the achieved results, regardless of the scientific discipline. I’d like to thank you very much for having the courage to speak in front of the audience today
– said the University of Lodz Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Education, Dr hab. Robert Zakrzewski, Associate Professor.
During the substantive part of the seminar, nine of more than 30 high school students from Lodz and the region, the programme participants, presented papers and presentations related to legal issues, developed under the supervision of mentors, scientists from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz. The topics of the works concerned such important issues as: human trafficking in the European Union, female circumcision in the light of international standards, behavioural letters of the National Tax Administration, as well as, for example, justifying school absences in accordance with the law applying in Poland.
The "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" programme is designed to bring together academics directly with individual students and to develop the passions and interests of high school students in various scientific disciplines. It is addressed to participants of subject Olympiads and students achieving high academic results and demonstrating specific research interests.
