The Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences performs an advisory function for the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences and its tasks relate to the development of research conducted in the Arctic and Antarctic.
Scientific interests of Prof. Krzysztof Pabis focus on the ecology of invertebrates living at the bottom of the seas and oceans, especially the Polychaeta – one of the most numerous and most ecologically diverse groups of marine organisms.
He is particularly committed to the issues related to the influence of glaciers and progressive global warming on the fauna of fjords in Antarctica, ecology of deep-water fauna and processes related to the influence of human activity on the bottom fauna of West Africa. Since 2014, the researcher has also been a delegate of the University of Lodz to the Board of the Polish Polar Consortium.
