Rektor UŁ prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska wybrana przewodniczącą KBO PAN

At the first meeting of the Committee of Organismal Biology of Polish Academy of Sciences, Rector of the University of Lodz, Prof. Dr hab. Elżbieta Żądzińska, was unanimously elected the Chairperson of the Committee of Organismal Biology of Polish Academy of Sciences.

In this body made up of 32 scientists, the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz is also represented by: Dr hab. Marta Kolanowska, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz, Dr hab. Marcin Kiedrzyński, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz and Dr hab. Maciej Bartos, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz acting as Secretary of the Committee.

The Committee of Organismal Biology is a scientific committee that operates within the Division II of Biological and Agricultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Committee activities allude to a long standing tradition of previously operating committees, particularly, the Committee of Anthropology, Committee of Botany, Committee of Physiology, Genetics and Plant Cultivation, Committee of Parasitology and Committee of Zoology.

The mission of the Committee of Organismal Biology is to integrate scientific environments and researchers concentrated on theoretical and practical aspects of organism life and dissemination of this knowledge in the general public.

The object of particular interest of the Committee is biology of microorganisms, plants, fungi, animals and humans, interactions between these organisms and their relations with natural and social environment.

The main tasks of the Committee are to take and support actions that promote the development of science, especially, in the area of physical anthropology, botany, physiology, mycology, parasitology and zoology, and to use the achievements of these disciplines for the good of the whole society.

The Committee of Organismal Biology, as a representative of the scientific environment concentrated around organismal biology, analyses and evaluates actions related to: the system of science and higher education, education at all levels, environmental protection and promotion and protection of health. Through the formulation of proposals and opinions, the Committee strives to positively affect the decisions made in the mentioned areas of the state and society functioning.
