Nowa strefa studencka na Filologu!

A new student zone has been created at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz, the official opening of which took place on 29 November of the current year. The zone was implemented as part of the project "Let's find a common language" on the initiative of the Student Science Club for Italianists "ItaliAMO".

Thanks to the commitment of the student science club members, the zone has two sofas, tables and board games in different languages, all in a unique Italian atmosphere. The zone is to serve lovers of the Italian language and culture, but also all students who want to spend time in a pleasant atmosphere.

The project submitted by "ItaliAMO" came second in the ranking of projects submitted as part of the "Young Microgrants" competition organised by the Opus Centre for the Promotion and Development of Civic Initiatives. Thanks to this, it received full funding for the creation of a language and culture zone. The idea of applying for the competition came from the Circle’s President – Zuzanna Kolbus.

I noticed the advert and started thinking about what ItaliAMO could offer. I quickly came up with the idea of creating a new zone at our faculty. I assumed that this would really distinguish the Club, and such a zone would be useful to the entire faculty community. After many discussions and consultations, we came to the conclusion that we did not want to simply buy more pouffes and tables that would not stand out from other spaces in the building. We wanted to create something more, a place that would be more characteristic, unique, with a specific purpose. And at that moment the idea to create a new multilingual and multicultural zone – just like our faculty, came to me!

– says Zuzanna.

The zone was opened with a symbolic red ribbon cutting by the ItaliAMO supervisor, Dr Katarzyna Kowalik, and representatives of the faculty authorities: Prof. Magdalena Pietrzak and Prof. Dorota Kaczmarek. After the official part, the event participants could get familiar with the zone's offer and at the end try some refreshments.

We hope that the language and culture zone we have created will be a place of fruitful meetings and a space where language will not be a barrier

– adds Zuzia.

This is yet another student zone at the Faculty of Philology that will make life at the university more enjoyable. It is a place where you can spend long breaks between lectures with friends, playing board games, studying and relaxing.
