The Perseids are a meteor shower – a show of shooting stars associated with the periodic comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle,i.e. a Halley-type comet that returns to the Sun every 133 years. The Earth, travelling along its orbit, hits debris left behind the comet in the form of meteoroids that fall into the Earth's atmosphere. This is why we have the opportunity to observe this beautiful phenomenon in the sky every year. The shower peaks between 12 and 13 August. Astronomical observations will also be accompanied by encounters with nocturnal insects during entomological workshops.
From 9:30 p.m. to midnight, you will not only be able to observe the Perseids but also see, among other things, Saturn, as well as other interesting objects in the August sky using a telescope. Presenters from the Planetarium and the Polish Society of Amateur Astronomers will talk about them.
Entrances to the Garden from Krzemieniecka Street and Retkińska Street will be open until 11:30 p.m., admission to the garden is possible after purchasing a ticket (PLN 7/PLN 14). The exit from Hufcowa Street will be closed during the observation.
