The tenth, jubilee edition is devoted to summarising the impact of the LUMEN project on the development of the higher education sector in Poland, in particular in the field of digital transformation of universities and changes in the culture of university management. The main area of interest of the participants is to look into the future of universities. Newly appointed rectors are discussing the challenges facing the authorities of Polish universities in the term 2024-2028.
Yesterday, on the first day of the conference, the achievements of Polish universities in THE World University Rankings 2025 published in autumn were also summed up, while during the evening gala combined with a gala dinner, the participating rectors were honoured. One of the awards from the creators of the ranking was presented to the Rector of the University of Lodz, Prof. dr hab. Rafał Matera.
The LUMEN conference is an extremely important platform for discussions between university leaders. It is very important that we take an active part in it, talk about our own experiences, but also learn a lot from other participants

Prof. dr hab. Rafał Matera was also a panellist – during the conference he took part in the discussion "Uczelnie w turbulentnym otoczeniu. Misja rektorów szkół wyższych w kadencji 2024-2028 w kontekście zmieniających się uwarunkowań i nowych wyzwań" [Universities in a turbulent environment. The mission of rectors of universities in the term 2024-2028 in the context of changing conditions and new challenges], whereas Chancellor of the University of Lodz, Maciej Sysak spoke in the panel "CTO Szkoły Wyższej – rola, obowiązki i odpowiedzialność dyrektora IT w uczelni XXI wieku" [CTO of a Higher Education Institution - the role, duties and responsibilities of the IT director in a 21st century university].
Full programme of the conference
The idea of the LUMEN Conference was born in 2015 out of the need to identify and promote best practices in the management of higher education institutions. During the nine editions of the LUMEN Conference held so far, three terms of rectors and pro-rectors of Polish higher education institutions presented their achievements in the form of implemented projects, developed solutions and undertaken initiatives.
