POSITION DESCRIPTION
I am a research and teaching fellow at the Faculty of Philosophy and History, University of Lodz, at the Institute of History, in the Department of Byzantine History.
My responsibilities include:
- conducting scientific research work focusing on the general history of the Middle Ages, specifically the history of Byzantium and Southern Slavs (primarily Bulgaria);
- preparing and teaching courses in the field of medieval general history, archaeology and material culture of antiquity (in the History and e-History courses) and the art of war in antiquity (in the Military Studies course);
- arranging the timetable of the Byzantine History department staff and coordinating them.

My research interests include the following:
- Medieval Bulgarian history (7th–14th centuries).
- Byzantine-Bulgarian relations during the Middle Ages, especially military struggles and mutual perceptions between Byzantines and Bulgarians
- Historical geography and geopolitics of the Balkan Peninsula in the Middle Ages
- Byzantine militarism
- Byzantine literature: historiography, epistolography, rhetoric and military manuals
- History of the mountains and their inhabitants in the Middle Ages
- Medieval capitals (Constantinople, Great Preslav, Veliko Tarnovo)
- The Bible in the literature and culture of the medieval Balkans
ACHIEVEMENTS
Professional titles and degrees
- 19.02.2001 – obtaining the degree of Master of Arts in archaeology on the basis of the thesis entitled Veliko Tarnovo in the Late Middle Ages and its fortifications (supervisor: prof. dr. hab. Leszek Kajzer)
- 25.03.2010 – conferring the degree of Doctor of Humanities in history on the basis of a dissertation entitled 'The significance of Haemus and its fortresses in the armed struggle between Byzantium and Bulgaria, 7th-11th c.' (supervisors: prof. dr hab. Waldemar Ceran / dr hab. Maciej Kokoszko, prof. UŁ)
