Transmisja z gniazda bociana czarnego – projekt RDLP i WBIOŚ UŁ

We would like to encourage you to follow the online broadcast from the black stork nest. The project, which has been implemented since 2016, is to reveal the secrets of these very rare inhabitants of Polish forests. This is a pioneering project in Poland and one of the few of its kind in Europe.

It is a joint educational project of Regionalna Dyrekcja Lasów Państwowych w Łodzi [Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Lodz] and the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz. The goal of the project, the broadcast implemented from March/April to September, i.e., from the arrival of the male to the departure of the young storks, is to educate about nature conservation and to deepen ecological awareness among the public. The scientific consultant of the project is Prof. Piotr Zieliński from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz.

The black stork (Ciconia nigra) is a protected species in Poland. It leads a secretive lifestyle. There are approximately 1,600 couples living in our country.

The nest has been observed online since 2020. From the very beginning, the nest is constantly occupied by the male "Florentino" (without a ring), while the females change between seasons. Currently, the mother of the four chicks is a female named "Fermina 4", who was ringed in 2018 south of Kielce in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship.
